Did you know? Cheshire Toy Shop stocks the widest range of Brio and Bigjigs wooden railway for miles around, so we can help you choose your layout, whether you are just starting out, or want to modify or extend your set.

First time on a train?

Brio My First Train Sets are suitable for children from around 18 months old, with bright colours, simple shapes and tactile pieces.

Our top pick is the Brio My First Beginners Set – it has ramps to take the trains off the track and onto the floor, and a rainbow coloured roller bridge to explore. The train is a push along – this is what we recommend to start with as children usually want to push the train along. But, if you prefer battery, we stock them too.

If you’d like to take your train set with you, the My First Take Along Set comes highly recommended by our customers. It has a clever case design which doubles up as a track!

The Brio My First range is totally compatible with the rest of our wooden railway, so it can grow with your child.

Next steps

For 2 to 3 year olds, we suggest the Brio Farm Railway Set or Bigjigs Figure 8 or Farm sets. These sets have brightly coloured interesting pieces but without too much fiddly fine motor skills needed. The Brio Farm Railway Set is our best seller here at Cheshire Toy Shop.

Need somewhere to park up? The Brio train garage or Bigjigs Triple engine shed help you to end playtime as you can put the trains “to bed”

Moving on

And the world of trains is here – for 3, 4, 5, 6 year olds and beyond, as they discover the joy of setting up their track and creating new layouts again and again.

We have track packs and accessories for everyone – including the grown ups.

New for 2018 is Brio Smart Tech, with special sensors in the engine which send signals to the bridges, workshop and farm to react and make noises or cause actions. Start with the Engine and Tunnel pack, then add more for extra fun.

Traditional values

This wooden railway design has been around since the 1950s and for real traditionalists, it has to be wood – and the Heritage range from Bigjigs has classic engines including The Mallard and The Flying Scotsman.

If you can’t see what you are looking for online, please ask. I’m adding new lines to the online shop all the time, but I just can’t keep up!

We are sure to have just what you want in store at Astbury, south Cheshire – it’s always good to visit us if you can, so you can see, touch and plan your layout.

With careful choices, your children will be playing with their wooden railway for years to come. And that makes it fantastic value.

And I’m nearly always on hand to advise  – please leave a message if you phone and I don’t pick up as I’ll probably be with a customer.

Cheshire Toy shop is open 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Sunday and online all the time.
